I travel mainly within Dorset but will also happily travel anywhere in the UK. Please get in touch to discuss the options.

I am a WES (Western Equestrian Society) Level 2 Approved Instructor, which means I am fully insured to teach at your premises and provide freelance schooling for your horse.

Training is based on good horsemanship and an individual approach to every horse and rider. My focus is on building horse’s and rider`s confidence and generally improving or advancing your partnership with your horse. And don’t worry if you don’t ride western, this approach is suitable for any style of riding.

private RIDING lessons

I work with horses and clients of all levels and ability, whether from traditional english or western background. All lessons can be tailor made to clients needs.

Occasionally I offer a short schooling session of your horse at your own premises as part of the lesson as it gives me an opportunity to assess your horse and feel for possible stiff parts or problem areas which we can later work on and improve. It helps me to guide you better throughout your lesson.

Lessons can be either ONE-TO-ONE or GROUP LESSONS.

horsemanship lessons

In horsemanship lessons we will focus mainly on groundwork which is an essential part of any horses education. By eliminating problems on the ground, you will eliminate most of the problems you might experience in the saddle.

I will explain about horses body language and expressions and show you how to better communicate with your horse so the horse desires to be with you. You will also learn how to establish a leadership based on trust and understanding.

For me groundwork has two purposes. Firstly I focus on stablishing a relationship with a horse. Getting your horse to desire you and focus on you - face up. The horse needs to feel that the safest place for him to be is with you and that he does need to use the flight instinct. And secondly groundwork is a preparation for your ridden work.

Horses learn by repetition and trying, a good horseman recognises a try and offers a reward .

Horsemanship lessons may include - leading, lunging, obstacles, desensitising, preparation for the saddle and rider and other problem solving.

TRAINING/ EXERCISING/ Hacking out

I offer training sessions for your horse at your own premises. These can include schooling or hacking out.

This is not aimed for very green/just started horses.
